Dr Louise Waddington
Programme Lead (CBT)
I am seconded on a part-time basis (0.4fte) to the School of Psychology, Cardiff University where I am programme lead for the CBT programmes. I am a clinical psychologist and a BABCP accredited CBT practitioner. My background is in adult mental health and as a research therapist on large-scale trials of psychological therapies for anxiety disorders and depression. I am interested in improving access to evidence-based therapies for common mental health problems and set up the CBT programmes in Cardiff in 2012, with BABCP accreditation from 2013.

Following qualification in 2006 I worked as a clinical psychologist in adult mental health and forensic services in Leeds while working one day a week as a research therapist on a trial of CBT for depression. I then moved to London and worked at the Institute of Psychiatry as a research therapist on trials of CBT for anxiety disorders. On moving to Wales in 2003 I ran the Panic Treatment Project in Cardiff before taking a position as senior clinical tutor on the South Wales Clinical Psychology Programme in 2006. I am now programme lead for the CBT programmes.
Professional activities and interests
I am interested in evidence based therapies for common mental health problems. I presented at the CBT4Wales Conference on access to psychological therapies in Wales. I am a committee member for BABCP South East Wales and a reviewer for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy. I am an external examiner for Bath Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Programme.
