Research summary

I am a Research Associate at Cardiff University, working within the Understanding Risk Research Group. I currently split my time between two research projects that are broadly concerned with exploring the opportunities and barriers to achieving transitions in UK energy and materials use through public workshops. Prior to this I completed my PhD in the School of Social Sciences at Cardiff University in conjunction with the Understanding Risk Research Group, entitled: ‘Reducing energy consumption in everyday life: a study of landscapes of energy consumption in rural households and communities in North Wales’.

Research topics and related papers

My research interests relate to the transformative power of the relationship between energy and society. Specifically, I am interested in how identity, place and practice combined to create unique cultural landscapes with their own set of opportunities and barriers to change. These interests result from my interdisciplinary background, which has provided me with an in-depth understanding of the social, cultural, environmental and political issues arising from the need to transition to a more sustainable society.
