Research summary

I'm researching the psychology of food choice in naturalistic settings, with a particular focus on how these settings can be architected to promote healthier choices.

Part of this research involves a focused exploration of the Welsh Healthy Vending directive, which instructs hospitals in Wales to restrict their vending machines to stock only healthy options and display only health-promoting labels and signage.  We will measure the effects of the directive on the profitability of vending, and explore whether manipulating product prices, promotional material, and the locations of vending machines can push consumers towards healthier choices.

Other avenues of interest to us include the consequences of imposing healthy choices on individuals, and the circumstances in which health-promoting labels and signage do or do not influence choices.

Teaching summary

I am a statistics advisor for UG Year 1, which involves holding drop-in clinics and marking statistics exams.

I have worked as a practical class assistant for UG Year 2, which involved supporting class delivery, providing feedback on work and giving statistical advice.
