Currently I am a Senior Lecturer (Adult Nursing), at the School of Healthcare Sciences, Cardiff University. I am a Registered Nurse; my clinical experience is in adult and critical care nursing. I am currently undertaking a PhD examining resilience of frontline nurses in Wales under the supervision of Professor Daniel Kelly, Dr Aled Jones (Healthcare Sciences) and Professor Andrew Smith (School of Psychology). The study is funded by The Royal College of Nursing Wales and The School of Healthcare Sciences Cardiff University.
I have worked in a variety of nurse educational roles since 1995, enabling students and registered nurses to be excellent healthcare practitioners. Currently I lead on International Student Mobility in the School. Nursing is highly rewarding yet demanding. I wish to contribute in some small way to understand how nurses can be better equipped to deal with the current and future health care demands. I see my research contributing to this.

My PhD is a mixed methods study incorporating quantitative and qualitative methods to examine the theoretical concept of resilience applied to front line nurses in Wales. This study is informed by recent research, UK and Welsh policy in order to enhance the health and wellbeing of nurses and the delivery of nursing care in Wales. Of increasing government and public significance is the supply of nurses’ and their ability to deliver safe person centred care and positively cope with the increasing demands of their work, now and in the future.
This unique study will inform practice, education, policy and research of what works well, what could work better and the nature of what is needed to develop resilience of frontline nurses in Wales to benefit the health and wellbeing of nurses and patients.
